This Cookie Policy explains which cookies and similar storage technologies ChatMe OÜ ("ChatME", "we") uses on our public website (chatme.es), on our platform (app.chatme.es) and in the chatbot widget that our customers embed on their websites. It supplements our Privacy Policy, where you will find the rest of the information about how we process personal data.

1. What are cookies and similar technologies?

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. Alongside cookies, modern websites use other browser storage technologies for similar purposes:

  • localStorage — stores data in your browser persistently (until you or the site delete it). It is not sent to the server automatically.
  • sessionStorage — the same as localStorage, but it is deleted when you close the tab.

In this policy we use "cookies" in a broad sense to refer to all of these technologies, as required by the ePrivacy Directive.

2. Our principles

  • Analytics and advertising cookies are only activated if you accept them. They are disabled by default (Google Consent Mode v2). We do not share your browsing with social networks.
  • We do not sell your data.
  • On our public website we also use Plausible, a cookieless analytics tool that does not require consent (it writes nothing to your browser and does not collect personal data).
  • Strictly necessary cookies do not require consent because the service would not work without them (for example, keeping you signed in or remembering your own cookie choice).
  • For our affiliate program we use Rewardful, which sets a first-party cookie containing a random referral identifier. It contains no personal data, is not used for advertising or profiling, and serves solely to credit your sign-up to the affiliate who referred you; for that reason we treat it as a functional cookie that is loaded without prior consent. You can block it from your browser.

3. Which cookies and storage we use

3.1 Public website (chatme.es)

Name Type Provider Purpose Category Duration
cm-cookie-consent-v2 localStorage ChatME (first-party) Stores your cookie choice and the date of consent Necessary Persistent (until you delete it or the policy changes)
cm-cookie-consent localStorage ChatME (first-party) Compatibility with the previous version of the cookie banner Necessary Persistent
cm-cta-dismissed localStorage ChatME (first-party) Remembers that you closed the floating bar so it is not shown to you again Necessary 7 days
Rewardful first-party cookies (affiliate program) First-party cookie Rewardful Credit your sign-up to the affiliate who referred you, if you arrived via an affiliate link. They contain only a random referral identifier — no personal data and no profiling Functional (affiliates) 90 days

Cookieless analytics (always active): we use Plausible Analytics to measure chatme.es traffic on an aggregate basis. Plausible does not use cookies or browser storage, does not create persistent identifiers and does not collect personal data, which is why it does not appear in the table above and — in accordance with the ePrivacy Directive — does not require your consent. It is a European-owned tool (an Estonian company) with data hosted in the EU (see subprocessors).

Analytics and advertising (only with your consent): if you accept analytics in the cookie banner, we activate Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads (loaded via Google Tag Manager). They are disabled by default through Google Consent Mode v2: until you accept them, none of these cookies are written. You can withdraw your consent at any time (see §5).

Name Type Provider Purpose Category Duration
_ga Cookie Google (Analytics) Distinguishes users to measure site traffic Analytics (opt-in) 2 years
_ga_<ID> Cookie Google (Analytics) Maintains the Google Analytics 4 session state Analytics (opt-in) 2 years
_gcl_au Cookie Google (Ads) Google Ads conversion attribution (conversion linker) Advertising (opt-in) 3 months

With your consent, Google may also set cookies on its own domains (e.g. google.com, doubleclick.net) for measurement and remarketing. These transfers to the United States are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) (see subprocessors).

3.2 Platform (app.chatme.es)

If you have an account and sign in to the dashboard, we use strictly necessary cookies for login and billing:

Name Type Provider Purpose Category Duration
sb-…-auth-token (and related sb-… cookies) Cookie Supabase Keeps you securely signed in Necessary (essential) Session, renewable; until you log out
NEXT_LOCALE Cookie ChatME (first-party) Remembers the dashboard language Necessary 1 year
__stripe_mid, __stripe_sid Cookie Stripe Processes payments and prevents fraud during checkout Necessary (essential) __stripe_mid: 1 year · __stripe_sid: 30 minutes

3.3 Chatbot widget

When you interact with a ChatME chatbot (on chatme.es or embedded on a customer's website), we store data in your browser's sessionStorage. These items are not cookies and are not sent to the server; they are deleted when you close the tab:

Name Type Provider Purpose Category Duration
cbp_session_<id> sessionStorage ChatME (first-party) Random identifier used to keep the conversation alive Necessary Until the tab is closed
cbp_history_<id> sessionStorage ChatME (first-party) Stores the history of the ongoing conversation Necessary Until the tab is closed
cbp_csat_<id> sessionStorage ChatME (first-party) Avoids asking you for a rating twice Necessary Until the tab is closed
cbp_storage_consent_<id> sessionStorage ChatME (first-party) Remembers that you accepted the widget's storage notice so it is not shown to you again Necessary Until the tab is closed

4. Categories and legal basis

Category Consent required? Legal basis
Necessary No Legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) and the strictly necessary cookies exemption under the ePrivacy Directive. Essential for the site and the service to work.
Analytics Yes (opt-in) Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). Google Analytics 4. (Plausible is cookieless analytics and does not require consent.)
Advertising Yes (opt-in) Consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). Google Ads.
Functional (affiliates) No Legitimate interest (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)). First-party cookie containing a random identifier, with no personal data, used to attribute affiliate program sign-ups (Rewardful).

The cookie banner currently displays a single "analytics" toggle which, when accepted, activates both analytics and advertising (Google Analytics 4 and Google Ads). If you decline it, neither of the two is activated.

5. How to manage or withdraw your consent

You can change or withdraw your choice at any time, just as easily as you gave it:

  • On chatme.es, use the "Cookie settings" button (cookie icon in the bottom-left corner) or the "Cookie settings" link in the footer. The preferences panel will reopen.
  • In the initial banner you can choose "Reject all", "Accept all" or "Customize" each category separately.
  • You can also delete or block cookies from your browser. Each browser handles this in its privacy settings: Chrome · Firefox · Safari · Edge

If you block strictly necessary cookies, some parts of the service (such as sign-in or payment) may stop working properly.

6. Third-party cookies and international transfers

We do not embed social media cookies. With your consent, Google stores analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) and advertising cookies (Google Ads) — including possible third-party cookies on its own domains (google.com, doubleclick.net) for measurement and remarketing; without your consent they are not activated. In addition, our affiliate program uses Rewardful, which sets a first-party cookie containing a random referral identifier — with no personal data or profiling — processed in the United States under Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs). Beyond that, the only third parties that store cookies are the providers strictly necessary to operate the service (Supabase for authentication and Stripe for payments). Plausible, our analytics tool for chatme.es, does not use cookies. All of them are listed as subprocessors.

The full, up-to-date list of providers is available at /legal/en/subprocessors. Data transfers outside the European Economic Area are governed by Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission.

7. Changes to this policy

If we change the cookies we use or introduce new categories, we will update this page and, where the change is material, we will ask for your consent again through the cookie banner.
